Erika Verzutti’s solo show, ‘The Life of Sculptures’, opens at LUMA Arles in France on 30 June 2024.
Developed during Verzutti’s residency at LUMA Arles from May to July 2024, ‘The Life of Sculptures’ showcases a new body of work in which the artist’s signature vertical forms are presented in a new light, laid down to rest upon stacks of newspapers encased in resin. The horizontal orientation of these sculptures suggests both crisis and exhaustion, as well as a respite from the relentless flow of information characterising our present. These pieces are accompanied by several bronze reliefs, featuring recurring motifs in Verzutti’s work: fruits, eggs, and body parts.
‘The Life of Sculptures’ also includes clay models of works in progress, evoking a studio space where the artist reflects on past creations and envisions future ones.
