Rebecca Myles Jones and Lygia Clark are among the artists included in ‘Check Mate(s)’ at Casa SP Arte, São Paulo, Brazil. The first international exhibition hosted by Casa SP Arte highlights 14 artists whose work explores grids – from urban geographies, to game boards and quilts.
Curated by Mark Godfrey and organised by kurimanzutto in collaboration with Casa SP Arte, the exhibition puts works by Oscar Murillo in conversation with artists from across the Americas. The quilted works of the Gee’s Bend Quiltmakers, represented Rebecca Myles Jones, and the Neo-Concrete images by Lygia Clark reveal the universality of compositional languages, and how such language can pass through generations.
