Sophie Barber’s work will be featured in ‘Sussex Modern’, a group exhibition at Towner Eastbourne, curated by Dr. Hope Wolf. The exhibition seeks to foster new ways of thinking about art, places, and cultures outside of the metropolis. With a focus on Sussex, the exhibition will offer a story or example against which the histories of other regions might be compared. While most would have objected to being called a ‘Sussex artist’, a regional lens will draw out the political potency of well-known works, questioning the labels that are usually used to describe them.
