‘Alison Wilding: Sculptor’s Drawings’, a display of works on paper by Alison Wilding is on view at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester until 12 January 2025.
Widely acclaimed for her multimedia sculpture, Wilding’s drawings hold an important place in her practice. Paint, pencil, ink and collage combine to explore the potential of floating forms and geometric shapes, possessing a weightless freedom that is impossible to replicate in sculpture. Following Wilding’s two solo exhibitions at Whitworth Art Gallery in 2013 and 2018, the exhibition presents a selection of Wilding’s works on papermade between 2018 and 2020, recently bequeathed to the Whitworth by Karsten Schubert.
