Sophie Barber is a painter who draws from the world around her – in this instance, Franz West’s 2019 Tate Modern retrospective, from which Sophie created a series of small-scale works referencing his name and his art, which is typically brightly coloured and made out of plaster, papier mâché, wire, polyester, aluminium and other, ordinary materials. The Austrian Cultural Forum London, SW7, has brought works by both artists together, drawing parallels between their their playful approach, and the intersection of painting and sculpture.
