The Turner Prize has remembered why it exists

The Turner Prize, in its long-running form, had effectively ceased to exist. In 2020, you’ll remember, it was replaced by a bursary scheme. Then, on last year’s shortlist, there were five collectives, each up to 70 members strong. Blame Covid for that deviant pair, but the contemporary-art world has long nurtured a sympathy for co-operative work. Giving £25,000 to one person seemed, more and more, an outmoded idea.
