Takuro Kuwata is included in ‘Japanese Kogei: Future Forward: Bridge Art and Craft’ at EYE OF GYRE, Tokyo. The exhibition is curated by Yuji Akimoto, Director/Professor of The University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts and Chief Executive Director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
This exhibition presents the work of three artists – Kuwata, Hiroshi Kitani and Masayasu Mitsuke – who connect the historical Japanese concept of kogei with contemporary art. Kogei refers to the skilled process of creating crafted pottery vessels where there is both a specific function and significant form. While making use of the materials and techniques that are characteristic of kogei to produce works, these artists transgress the boundaries of traditional Japanese craft and contemporary art.
