Ian Kiaer: Endnote, ping, murmer
BASE / Progetti per l’Arte, Florence
27 June – 20 September 2019
Alison Jacques Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Ian Kiaer at BASE / Progetti per l’Arte, Florence: ‘Endnote, Ping, murmer’.
The exhibition takes as its starting point Samuel Beckett’s 1966 text ‘Ping’, in which a figure and the ground become blurred in what appears to be a ‘White Cube’ setting. In the exhibition, sentences from the text take on a strange status, presented as either poster, painting or image to serve as comments, propositions or even commands.
The second part of the exhibition continues Kiaer’s project on the early work of the architect Peter de Bretteville, particularly his ‘Quick City’ initiative of experimental and temporary structures that sought to produce more liberated alternatives to the rigid demands of modernism.
