Alison Wilding: By the Mark – and the Line below the Loaf
Heong Gallery, Downing College, Cambridge
14 June – 28 September 2024
‘Alison Wilding: By the Mark - and the Line below the Loaf’, a solo exhibition of drawings by Alison Wilding, opens at the Heong Gallery, Downing College, Cambridge, on Friday 14 June 2024.
While best known for her multimedia sculptures, Wilding has developed a drawing practice parallel to her sculpting practice across her four-decade-long career. ‘The thing I like about drawings is that they can float. You don’t think about gravity’, the artist describes, using drawing as a way to explore what objects cannot achieve.
Curated by Prerona Prasad, ‘By the Mark - and the Line below the Loaf’ is the most extensive exhibition of Wilding’s drawings in a public gallery to date, bringing together works on paper from the last 30 years, alongside new work made specifically for the exhibition. These drawings are accompanied by a display of small-scale sculptural works. A catalogue of Wilding’s drawings, ON PAPER, will be published by Ridinghouse in Autumn 2024.
