Ana Mendieta is included in ‘Expanding Landscapes: Painting After Land Art’, an an exhibition that brings together historical works and contemporary artists at Lakeland Arts in the Lake District, UK.
Engaging with nature and observing our relationship with the landscape around us has been a common theme in painting since Romanticism, with many artists taking inspiration from the Lake District such as J.M.W Turner who explored light, time, and the forces of weather through his work. Curated by Rebecca Partridge and Joy Sleeman in collaboration with Helen Stalker, this exhibition follows the romantic motifs of earth, sea and sky through a variety of materials and processes including the use of earth pigment from specific locations.
