Dorothea Tanning’s work is currently featured in Hail Delirium! at The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art & Natural History, London.
The exhibition brings together a selection of rarely seen prints by Tanning, drawn from the museum’s collection and a private collection, alongside posters that reflect the artist’s enduring visual imagination. Spanning etchings and lithographs, the presentation highlights the importance of printmaking within Tanning’s wider practice and her sustained engagement with metamorphosis, identity and the subconscious.
Tanning’s works transform domestic interiors, fabric, figures and everyday forms into psychologically charged spaces of ambiguity and dislocation. The exhibition forms part of the museum’s ongoing programme dedicated to major twentieth-century women artists, following previous presentations of Leonora Carrington, Ithell Colquhoun and Maeve Gilmore.
The exhibition coincides with the publication of Alyce Mahon’s new monograph, Dorothea Tanning: A Surrealist World, published by Yale University Press in 2026.
