Erika Verzutti
Compton Verney Commission
19 – 20 March 2024
Erika Verzutti’s ‘Naked Venus’ (2024) has been unveiled at Compton Verney Sculpture Park.
Verzutti’s monumental site specific work is the first permanent commissioned sculpture installed in the grounds, forming part of Compton Verney’s permanent collection. Verzutti’s ‘Venus’ responds directly to the landscape of the park, which was designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century.
Verzutti’s sculpture is part of her long-standing ‘Venus’ series, referencing the Venus of Willendorf, an artefact that was produced around 25,000 years ago that has since become a canonical symbol of the goddess and mother.
