Lygia Clark
Neue Nationalgalerie
23 March – 12 October 2025
Opening in May 2025, Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin will show a major retrospective of Lygia Clark. With around 150 artworks, the show will present her oeuvre from the 1950s to the 1980s, ranging from geometric-abstract paintings to participatory sculptures and performances. Curated by Dr. Maike Steinkamp, Dr. Irina Hiebert Grun and Artistic Director Klaus Biesenbach, in collaboration with the Associação Cultural Lygia Clark, Rio de Janeiro, the exhibition marks the first comprehensive exhibition of Clark’s practice in Europe since 1997.
The exhibition will highlight the artist as a radical innovator and follows Clark’s first major UK survey at Whitechapel Gallery (2 October 2024 - 12 January 2025). Visitors will be invited to interact with the artworks on display and take part in workshops and group performances to fully engage in Clark’s participatory approach. The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual exhibition catalogue, the first German-language publication on Lygia Clark.
