Sheila Hicks
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
9 August 2025 – 9 August 2026
Sheila Hicks’ first solo exhibition at SFMOMA features works inspired by objects, textures, and patterns observed in her migratory life and Paris – her adopted city – and a site-specific installation in the museum’s New Work gallery.
Born in Nebraska in 1934, Hicks has been based in Paris for the last 61 years. Drawing from places with personal significance, from the cobblestones of her Parisian courtyard to the towering lighthouses of the rocky islands of France, her works negotiate the possibilities of fibre and its traditions, constructing sculptural forms and installations.
