Robert Mapplethorpe is the subject of a major exhibition at Le Stanze della Fotografia, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. Curated by Denis Curti, the exhibition focuses on the artists’ preoccupation with the human figure and classical influence on this work, and is conceived as the first act in a trilogy of exhibition, to be succeeded by ‘Le forme del desiderio’ at Palazzo Reale in Milan and subsequently ‘Le forme della bellezza’ at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis in Rome.
