Ana Mendieta at Tate Modern

Tate Modern presents the UK’s first major exhibition dedicated to multidisciplinary artist Ana Mendieta (1948–1985) in more than a decade. Bringing together over 120 works, the exhibition traces a practice that transformed the possibilities of sculpture, photography and film during the 1970s and 1980s.
Mendieta is best known for what she called her ‘earth-body’ works: fleeting interventions in which she outlined, impressed or evoked the human form within the landscape using earth, fire, flowers and other natural materials. Arranged thematically around symbolic locations, the exhibition charts key moments in her career while foregrounding her sustained engagement with the natural world. Her landmark Silueta Series 1973–80 is shown alongside newly remastered films, rarely seen paintings and drawings, late sculptures and restaged installations.
