‘In London, the standard-bearer has been Alison Jacques, founder of the gallery of the same name, where last week an exhibition opened dedicated to the British artist Maeve Gilmore, who died in 1983 at the age of 66: a painter but also a writer and textile artist, she developed a surrealist imagery that was centered on her domestic life. Also linked to Surrealism, between painting and textiles, is the Italian Bona de Mandiargues, who died in 2000 at the age of 74, to whom Alison Jacques’ next exhibition will be dedicated.
